Hi Paul, I had the same problem last year, I was 14 then. I have asma and sometimes it really gets bad. It was a little more that a year ago, like last winter when mom took me to my doctor late in the afternoon and he said to my mom, get this kid to the hospital. While checking in my mom had to fill out a Q&A form. One of the questions was: does your child wet his/her bed? If yes, how often: a. once a week or less, b. more then once a week, c. most nights. Does your child use protection? a. bed pad, b. protective garment, c. diaper. Well, back up 3 years when I was 11 mom got fed up with the wet sheets and stuff I ended up in night diapers and waterproof pants. It took a week or so to get used to wearing them but I got to tell you, I started sleeping lots better. No more cold wet beds. Anyway, I was still sleeping in diapers when we went to the hospital so I don't have to tell you how mom answered the questions. When we got to the room I was given an open back gown and told to take off my clothes and put it on and get into the bed. Later on my doctor comes in and orders a bunch of stuff. He talks to my mom and leaves. Next comes the nurse and she puts into my arm a saddle. A saddle is a thing that you can plug up to 3 I.V.'s into. Next comes another nurse and she talks to my mom. My mom bends over to tell me that the nurse is going to put a diaper on me, just relax and let her do her job. I had been doing my own diapers for about a year but now I was sick and weak and wasn't going to fight it. I couldn't if I wanted to. She did her job and left. The next thing I remember is the next morning, a new nurse is taking of the wet diaper. I'm half awake but I know what she is doing. When she is done cleaning me up she starts to put a fresh diaper on me and I tell her that I only need them at night when I sleep. She smiles and tells me that with all the meds going into me I going to be sleeping alot for the next day or so. They had me in diapers day and night for 6 full days and then 2 more nights. Guess what? Nobody said one work about the diapers, even the guy in the next bed didn't say anything. He was really nice, I think he said he was 22. He had something wrong with his back and they wanted him to walk as much as he could. Buck would come back from walking with his walker and say, Sam I think the nurse is comming in to change your pants, why don't we turn on the T.V. On his way to his bed we would pull the curtian and get into his own bed. Not once did he say the word diaper. The T.V. was so he couldn't here the tapes being pulled off. Buck was a really nice guy. So I say to you: Tell them that you have this problem, if they ask what you do at home - tell them. Good luck my friend. SammyZeee@aol.com
