Reply from Darren, Age 22 - 10/7/00You don't need to miss camps I've been on 2 camps now and wet the bed. I wet the bed all the time at home and then on the millennium camp this year I wet the bed for the first time on a camp (I usually stay awake all camp and end up really tired after the camp but it is a little bit hard to stay awake all night when you have to look after cubs the following morning) and I was really embarresed (my age is correct) but I told the scout leader and he was very understanding, I thought it was mainly because he was a teacher but on the next camp I went on was a training hike for the DoE and I wet the bed every night on this camp luckily I had brought nappies with me and the next morning I realised I had a problem the nappy would smell bad if I kept it for three days so I had a word with one of the people in our group (we were all between 18 and 25) and she said don't worry we'll just find a bin to put it in later and the rest found out also but they didn't make fun. When you think of the statistics on bed wetting 1 in 50 adults wets the bed and about 1 in 5 children wet the bed then in an average camp of 50 about 10 of the kids there also have the same problem. Until I found out the statistics I used to think that I was the only adult that wet the bed but knowing the statistics I have worked out that on average about 100 adults wet the bed in the Bewsey area and 1000 kids (kids are upto 16 adults are 16-39) my calculations are based on the entire area being all 2 adult and 2 children (average) families. So that is a big number in just one small UK town sub district (about 5 sq miles). |
