Lana:..My name seems to be popping up all over now. This was not intentional starting out. But hopefully I may be able to advise you and John. This is right on the heels of the post below by George with a similar need. In your case,Lana, I suspect there may be some trial and error to see what may work. Bulkiness is not an issue here unless you would opt for a flannel cloth type brief which are generally made in the US and maybe Canada. They are tuff to dry in a dryer, let me tell you, though you can get from a couple of places(1 in UK)a towelling brief that is whatever you order, 1,2 or 3 ply that behaves better when drying. Otherwise, you will need to determine how much cost you consider reasonable under the circumstances. If you expect to be using a diaper more than a few months, you would be wise to consider cloth diapers, but you do have the laundry and the$$$outlay for the diapers and you would also need waterproof pants, several pair, and a few other items. The $$$saving over an extended time becomes considerable cos of the reuse feature. Meanwhile, you probably would want disposable diapers to tide you over and have some anyway for other times. This is the trial thing. Adult diapers(called briefs)have a size break at about a 44-inch waist and more importantly a 44-inch hip size. A style called Protective Underwear breaks the size at about the same measurements. Most people think of Depends in these models, but there are others around. You can shop the price down with quantity buys, up to a point, in some warehouse stores and on the internet, then getting them delivered to your door. TENA brands are great, but a little more expensive than DEPENDS. And both briefs and underwear can be picked up under Store Brand labels, generally $$less. All of these described for disposeables are not bulky by themselves, as for your concern, but performance especially for nite use, depends upon once again trial and error results. Also, I would try the Small/Medium size and hope that John would not need the larger size for 44" and UP, as he would then have just too much material to deal with. Buy as small a package you can find for starters and go from there. I am also a proponent of using waterproof pants no matter what kind of diaper is under them. If you have a Medical Store near you to shop, you might find a good diaper there and also some sort of pant. For anything heavier than the very lightest pant and for cloth diapers, you would need to shop them on the internet and you might let us know how you are doing and ask for further advice. The first thing to do is to measure John's waist and hip size about 8" or so below his waist. Hope we're helping.....mr j
