Like Beth with her son, I have now come to the conclusion that my son is not developing a fetish. I looked up nappy/diaper fetish on the net, and it seems that one of the main characteristics is wanting to stay in a wet nappy for several hours after getting out of bed. My son almost always goes straight to the bathroom from his bed, removes his wet nappy and has a shower. The only exception is occasionally at weekends, when he is late getting up and I have to call him down for breakfast before he has gone to the bathroom. He then has breakfast in his T-shirt and wet nappy, but he removes it and showers immediately afterwards. The only time he has remained in a nappy longer than that was when he had a very bad bout of flu last winter, but that was my decision, not his. As he was confined to bed and slept a lot during the day, I decided that it would be best if he remained in a nappy until he had recovered. This turned out to be a wise move as he was sweating a lot and drinking a lot and wet his nappy almost every time he dosed off. He was so groggy that I had to change him for the five days that he spent in his bed; the only time that I have done so since he was nine. As I now think that I was worrying unnecessarily, I have decided to let him continue to change into his night wear (including his nappy) after his bath, but only if he promises not to be lazy and pee in his nappy while watching TV. If he needs to go to the toilet, he will have to remove his nappy and pin it back on again after he has been, even if it does mean that he misses part of the TV programme.
