Your child most likely has backed up hard stool in her bowel and abdomen which causes soiling when the liquid stool leaks around it. It also can cause wetting because the backed up stool pushes on the bladder. Doctors usually recommend cleaning the backed up stool out with mineral oil and fleets enemas followed by mineral oil by mouth and stool softeners for several months to prevent recurrence. Your doctor may examine your child's abdomen and do an x-ray to make the diagnosis.
