Reply from Vanessa, Child's Age 7 - 9/26/03 - IP#: 68.110.244.xxx parbb-c1586 Have you talked to a gastroenterologist? Your son sounds like he could have a condition called encopresis. My son had it (so did his father as a child), and it is common in boys, affects 6% of boys. It is when a child develops constipation and the mess that you see in his pants is liquidy, not solid. A child with this kind of disorder does not get the regular feeling of needing to go to the bathroom. Feel his tummy. A healthy tummy should be soft, not hard. Treatment (if he is diagnosed) would consist of a stool softener probably for about a year. Please get your son checked and rule this out. It is awful for a child your son's age to be suffering this. Diapers or not, he seems to have "accidents" - this is a symptom of encopresis. Good luck Vanessa |
