There are several people that respond negatively to any message having to do with diapers and/or plastic pants. It is if they are out there waitng to pounce on anyone that mentions using a diaper for night wetting. I do agree that every child that wets the bed should first be checked out by a physician. This is what any lovng parent would do. The only prognosis given for my daughter's bedwetting is that her bladder is small and that she is a deep sleeper. She will eventually grow out of it and we have to learn to deal with it until then. I have tried medications, limiting liquid intake and waking her up several times a night but with very limited success. I discussed using protection with my daughter and we decided she should wear a diaper at night. We tried a couple brands of disposable diapers but they never held enough and she would leak onto her bed. We switched to cloth diapers and plastic pants and have not had many leaks at all. My daughter changes herself and she washes her own diapers most of the time. I help her with the laundry once and a while. We openly discussed her wetting and came to the decision together that she should wear a diaper. Since then, she is much less stressed over the whole thing. She sleeps better and the frequency of her wetting has decreased from every night to 4 or 5 times a week. She is not treated like a baby. There is no teasing about using diapers. She knows that I know all about using nighttime protection because I wore a diaper and plastic pants at night until I was 15 years old. They worked for me and they are working just fine for my daughter. I only hope that she does not need to wear them until she is 15 like I was.
