Reply from Laura, Child's Age 16 - 1/27/04 - IP#: 80.225.4.xxx parbb-c1740 Thanks Lenny, Tom and Tom.UK for your replies. My son has always been a very deep sleeper, even between the ages of 9 and 14 when he was dry at night. We always joked that it would take a major earthquake to wake him once he was asleep (he sleeps through loud thunder storms). I asked our GP whether it would help to have an appointment with a urologist, but he didn’t think it was necessary. I think Tom could well be right about the combination of deep sleep and rapid growth contributing to his continued wetting, although I still believe that it was initially triggered by his father’s sudden death in an accident. I remember that he cried himself to sleep that night and his bed was soaked in the morning. As he is still growing rapidly, perhaps I should be resigned to the probability that he will continue wetting for a while yet, and not keep pestering him about his wetting. As I mentioned before (I think), he cannot wear disposable nappies, as he seems to be allergic to something in them (probably one of the chemicals) and breaks out in intensely itchy red rashes, so the NHS option is not open to us, as they do not supply terry nappies. Tom.UK, my son puts on his own nappies. The only time I needed to change him since he was 9 was when he was very sick with flu and felt very groggy. I obtained his present 36 inch terry nappies from Drylife and his vinyl pants from Arizona Care (as the Drylife pants do not have enclosed elastics and therefore wick moisture on to the bedding). I need to get him some new waterproof pants soon, and I am thinking of getting the new blue rubber pants from Arizona Care, as he finds the clear vinyl (see-through) ones a bit embarrassing. So I will probably get a new pack of 5 nappies in a larger size at the same time, now that it looks as if he will be needing nappies for a while longer yet and his present ones are getting way too small for him. Thank you all for your comments and suggestions, some of which had not occurred to me before. Hopefully, he will gradually become dry at night again when his growth spurt ceases. |
