Reply from steph, Child's Age 0 - 2/10/04 - IP#: 172.199.66.xxx parbb-c1762 Cindy you made a very good point. When I was little I had the same problem too. My mom put a diaper on me at night for my problem until I was 8 ½. When I got trained in the day at 3 she continued put a diaper on me at night. She thought I would soon become dry at night as well. But the weeks went by then turned to years and I still wet every night. Mom admitted that she wanted to take me out of diapers at night. But every evening it was easier to put a diaper on me. Then she would not have to deal with laundry in the morning. We had no washer or dryer in our apartment. When I was 8 ½ the youngest was potty trained and the diapers disappeared. My brother was 5 at that time and stopped wetting right away. My sister 3 ½ at that time did still wet at night but only occasionally till age 12. I was the oldest and the only one who continued to wet every night. Mom believes that by keeping me in diapers at night for so long a time I just got used to just going, as I needed at night. Most children learn to control urine at night because they don’t want to be wet. With a diaper I never needed to learn to control at night. By age 8 ½ the process of just relieving myself while asleep was well learned and ingrained in me. At 13 ½ years old I still wet every night. I started having dry nights in the 8th grade but I continued to wet occasionally till almost 16 years old. Though diapers might be appropriate in some cases they should be the last resort and not the 1st course of action. Stephanie :) |
