We're dealing with something similar with my 6 1/2 yr. old. We allow no caffeine at all, no drinks past 7:00, except a sip of water, and make sure he pees right before bed. For every day he stays dry, he adds an "X" to a chart he has to save up for a GBA game he wants (1 X = $1). Although I don't think he can wake himself up and control what happens during the night, the reward system encourages him to cut out the fluids in the evening and remember to go potty before bed. He's been increasing the number of days he's dry, with a relapse when he was running a temp recently. We may move to the alarm system, but are seeing slow progress with the system in place. Also, we are careful to always be positive and not add to his frustration. Good luck!
