My daughter's doctor recommended DDAVP tablets to treat her bedwetting. Has anyone else had any experience with this product? How did it go? Please share your thoughts on it.

My mother made me wear diapers because she hated the smell of urine in her house but...they can be expensive. I still wear them but I also set my alarm clock to wake me up about two hours after i go to sleep to pee...if i go to sleep at 9ish i set my alarm to wake me up at 10:30-11:00, then 2:00-3:00 and i will not wet the bed, and the alarm gets you out of the habit of sleeping really hard.

I have two children. The oldest is 15 years and is a boy. He was a bed wetter till the age of 10. We hoped he outgrew it till May this year when he started wetting again. He didn't tell me will I found his sheets soaked through and his mpants wet and messed in. I confronted him and he said he couldn't help it he woke up everynight wet messed and cold. I then mentioned diapers and he said he would think about it.. (Click here to see rest of message).

Please explain to me why no one here is interested in training their bedwetting child or teen to get up in the night and use the toilet? Why are diapers preferred instead? Statistically, 50% of bedwetters are "cured" by learning to get up and use the toilet in the night. Granted many bedwetters are very deep sleepers, but with a good
alarm clock - not a wetness alarm - (maybe the Sonic Boom, or silent vibration Bedshaker alarm clock described in the main parents area) and a little parental help, almost any child can learn to wake up and use the toilet...(Click here to see rest of message).

The discussion going on here is interesting. As the mother of one former bedwetter and one bedwetter the topic of diapers-no diapers has been on my mind the last 12 years or so. Ive tried basically every thing possibly to help my 2 sons: alarms, medication, no drinks before bedtime, waking them up/ letting them sleep, diapers/ no diapers. My eldest son tried an alarm for periods of 3-4 months at age 7, 9 and 13. The alarms woke me up (not him, he is a very deep sleeper). (Click here to see rest of message).

Bryan is a TB. This means Teen Baby for those not familiar. Bryan is too young to consider Denise's childs welfare before his own. Bryan comes here to satisfy a fetish urge, not to cure his bedwetting. Yes, I think that waking a sleeping child to pee is better then letting them continue to diaper wet. The only treatment that I have seen work is from Pacific Intl. I think they are vastly overpriced, but their success rate is the best. It consists of an alarm that will lift the roof off the home, total family involvement and total family support. Everyone in the family makes ending your bedwetting their goal. The kid is reminded to pee before bed, awoken to pee an hour before the alarm usually is triggered and never diapered for convienence... (Click here to see rest of message).

I am very glad to see the renewed discussion on this board about the pros and cons of using diapers in older kids. I would like to hear more from "Reader" about what he feels caused his diaper fetish and what he recommends to the parents who use this board in order to avoid such fetishes/infantilism in their kids. I also would very much like to start a discussion on the use of alarms and medications and other ways of avoiding the use of diapers. There is a great post from a successful mother with a Malem alarm on the Consumer Reports board on this site (From terri, 2/18/03). With the overwhelming number of kids who appear to be attached to diapers on this site, this is a very important topic.
